Leveraging Moodle in Support of Inquiry-Based, Student-Centred Learning

Abstract

An inquiry-based, student-centred (IBSC) model of learning has guided  Moodle's development from its very inception: "a particular  philosophy of learning, a way of thinking that you may see referred  to in shorthand as a 'social constructionist pedagogy'." 1

But how best to leverage Moodle's features and further shape its  development in support of IBSC learning? In this session, experienced  and new Moodle users will be invited to engage in an interactive  process of inquiry to explore Moodle's potential for IBSC learning. A  distance-delivered, IBSC, graduate-level course  that will soon be  offered via Moodle (long offered via another LMS) will serve as the  focal point of the session.

This is not a "how to" session—the   course's pedagogical techniques will be shared to stimulate and  further discussion, not as exemplars of IBSC learning.  The aim of  the session is to stimulate, and capture the results of, a discussion  of how Moodle can be leveraged and further developed in support of  IBSC learning.
