Why moot?
The Tolkien Connection
Moodlemoots originated in Oxford. J.R.R. Tolkien was twice Professor of Anglo-Saxon at
the University of Oxford. While there he wrote "The Hobbit", "The
Lord of The Rings", "The Silmarillion" and a number of other works.
In volume two of The Lord of The Rings: "The Two Towers", events happen involving Ents. Huge,
wise, ancient creatures that look after and manage the trees in the ancient forest of Fangorn.
At one point, all of the Ents gather for a meeting, and this is called
the Ent Moot. (Moot is an Old English or Anglo-Saxon word meaning a meeting
or gathering - correct me if I'm wrong).
So, what else could we call it
but MoodleMoot?
