Over the last 20+ years, our Moodle platform has been nurtured, loved and adopted all over the world by the Moodle community. The community has been responsible for lots of great changes and improvements, but the core platform and technology has largely stayed the same. Technology however, has massively changed over that period. We have seen the creation of new languages and cloud platforms, new tooling for automations and delivery, new design patterns for microservices and APIs, massive improvements in UI capabilities, as well as AI bots and machine learning platforms.
The education of tomorrow requires a modern platform that can support and shape its future. It’s time to invest in our platform—refreshing it with the latest advances in software development so it can fully benefit from today’s EdTech innovations and those still to come.
We’d like to share with the broader community our Technology Modernisation Strategy and initial roadmap, giving you an insight into the changes we will be making, how we believe the experience of working with Moodle will evolve and how we are going to approach this work. We see our open source community and partners as key participants in this transformation, so we want to let you know how you can get involved, and how you can unlock your creativity with these upcoming changes!
