Day 2

What is digital capital and why should you care?

Access to the internet is not the only digital divide. Not all learners gain the same outcomes from their use of technology, and not all are able to exploit the benefits to the same extent. How we experience online learning is more complex than it may first appear, and is often influenced by our economic, social and cultural environments. The concept of digital capital can help educators and learning & development professionals explore how learners with varying skills and backgrounds might experience online pedagogies differently. This session explores a framework for digital capital which educators can use to put themselves in their learners’ shoes, and considers how we can adapt our learning activities to minimise digital inequality and enable all learners to get the best out of their experience.

Attendees will leave with a digital capital framework they can use in their practice, as well as actionable insights on how to design courses with digital equality in mind.
