Ctrl+Alt+Govern: 15 years of rebooting EdTech governance in higher ed

Over the past 15 years, our institution has created a robust and dynamic governance framework to guide the adoption, implementation, and evaluation of learning technologies. This presentation will offer a candid look at how we’ve navigated the often messy, always critical work of aligning technology with teaching and learning goals in a large, decentralised higher education environment.

We’ll explore the formal and informal governance structures that have emerged—including internal and external committees as well as working groups, and how these bodies collaborate to create policy, vet tools, prioritise investments, and assess impact. Central to our approach is a commitment to transparency and shared decision-making.

In this presentation we will discuss why governance is important and the evolution of our governance process. By sharing both what we’ve gotten right and where we’ve stumbled, we hope to provide an honest, practical roadmap for institutions grappling with similar challenges and some policies that can be adapted to fit your institution’s needs.
