How might generative AI help us develop new and interesting ways to teach? What potential AI applications might academics want to use, but don’t have the skills or time to build? How might generative AI be used to develop creative and practical ways of doing teaching differently?
This project supports creative teaching innovation through generative AI—enabling course teams to build prototypes for teaching and learning. From simulating interviews with stakeholders in environmental projects to creating realistic clinical case scenarios that guide student decision-making with evidence-based feedback, we combine learning design and app development support to turn bold ideas into working tools.
As universities face rapid changes in digital education, this project (a partnership between the Centre for Research in Education and the Edinburgh Futures Institute, University of Edinburgh) offers a critical alternative approach to innovative human/machine partnerships in education.
Although this is a non-Moodle project and our work extends beyond the Moodle ecosystem, its principles offer valuable insights for developing Moodle AI plugins, encouraging a bottom-up, academic-owned approach that involves teachers, students, and developers in the creative process. By blending pedagogical expertise with technology, our approach challenges traditional hierarchies and advocates for collaborative innovation in education.
This critical, evidence-based presentation contributes to broader conversations in education and generative AI. Attendees will gain actionable insights on the implementation of GenAI in education as interdisciplinary collaborative work, and unlock new ways of thinking about educational design that will help to reflect on reimagining the use of AI in education.
