In a rapidly evolving retail landscape, engaging frontline employees is more critical—and more challenging—than ever. At OPAP, we responded with LEVEL UP, a gamified performance and loyalty scheme designed to energise, educate, and reward our retail network.
This presentation will explore how we transformed traditional training and performance management into a dynamic, game-inspired experience that’s already reshaping our culture.
Launched in late 2024 and powered by our Moodle Workplace based e-learning platform, LEVEL UP empowers employees to earn “OPAP Coins” through two core paths: completing quarterly training missions and achieving store-level KPIs and sales rally targets. These coins can be redeemed for real-world rewards—either through a curated eShop or via rechargeable cards—making progress tangible and motivating.
The results speak for themselves: within months, over 83% of our retail employees were actively participating. Regulatory training completion hit 90%, onboarding satisfaction rose to 70%, and overall satisfaction climbed to 80%. The programme’s design also supports partner enablement, with co-funding mechanisms and strategic alignment across our stores.
But LEVEL UP is more than a reward system—it’s a cultural shift. By integrating game mechanics like missions, levels, and real-time feedback, we’ve created a framework that fosters continuous learning, healthy competition, and a sense of belonging. It’s not just about performance—it’s about pride, progress, and play.
