The Digital Education Futures (DEF) programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is a strategic change initiative aimed at delivering a School-wide vision for transformative digital education.
Rooted in the principles of accessibility, universal design, and future-readiness, DEF seeks to enhance practice and improve staff and student experiences across teaching, learning, and assessment—both in person and online.
Building on recent technical enhancements to LSE’s Virtual Learning Environment (LSE Moodle), the Moodle Baseline Templates project has been launched to support consistent, high-quality digital practice. This initiative focuses on designing and developing a custom Moodle theme and course page template that prioritises accessibility, usability, and consistency. The goal is to create a more intuitive and inclusive learning experience for all students, while also supporting academic staff in delivering engaging and effective course pages.
Participants engaging with this poster session will gain insights into how LSE is embedding a “design for tomorrow” ethos within both the Moodle Templates project and the broader DEF programme. The session will share findings from recent stakeholder consultations—including feedback from students and staff—and showcase practical examples of how these insights are shaping the theme and template design.
Beyond the Moodle community, this session will be relevant to those interested in digital transformation, student voice, and inclusive education. Attendees will leave with actionable ideas and inspiration to support their own institutional initiatives in digital course design and educational innovation.
