Day 1

Automating compliance-based training using non-standard Moodle

While Moodle might be best known for its traditional educational applications, the underlying framework has plenty to offer a corporate environment when used as part of a non-standard variant.

To deliver courses to a single organisation or one-off courses to multiple organisations, standard Moodle is perfectly capable. However, because this variant lacks long-term storage capability, archives and records will need to be stored separately. Some organisations manage compliance lifecycles through external repositories and calendar coordination, but this can become administratively unwieldy in the long term, particularly if planning for growth.

To simplify the administration of compliance-based training, multi-tenant Moodle variants introduce a data archiving functionality not available in standard Moodle, saving all enrolment and completion records to facilitate the automation of recertification in line with requirements. Additionally, a multi-tenant variant recognises organisational hierarchical divisions, allowing for administrative devolution of any or all role-based tasks (including reporting) on a site-wide or per-tenant basis.

E-Learn Design’s multi-tenant Moodle variant, IOMAD, utilises a licensing model to control course access and define capacity, configure course and program allocation parameters, set shelf-life and lifecycles, and automate recertification timescales. As an open-source solution, IOMAD sidesteps the issue of per-user costs, offering unrestricted scalability in a white-labelable environment, course sharing for data efficiency at scale, and parent/child company hierarchical nuance should departments be insufficient to cope with structural complexity.

As IOMAD can also be configured for a single tenant as a stand-alone solution, this particular Moodle variant delivers cost-effective administrative efficiency for compliance-based training at every enterprise level.

Participants will leave with insights they can apply immediately when considering organisational LMS solutions.

Workplace learning is vital to institutional sustainability and future-focused skills growth. Compliance-based training providers (both in-house and out) can ensure that course delivery is timely, controlled, and cost-effective by leveraging the Moodle Open Source ethos.

E-Learn Design is a Certified Moodle Partner, awarded Community Contributor of the Year in 2023 in recognition of IOMAD.
