Moodlers, we’re excited to be talking to Emma Campbell from Cengage in this blog post.
Cengage is also our supporter for the upcoming MoodleMoot Australia 2017 in Sydney from 26 – 28 September.
Some of you would already come across Cengage in your institutions and organisations but just briefly, Cengage is a learning solutions provider for textbooks, technologies and digital resources for a range of markets throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Their learning solutions are used in both countries in universities and vocational institutions, libraries and workplaces and K-12 schools.
If you want to view Cengage’s vast resources, we recommend heading over to their website or better yet if you are in Sydney, join us at MoodleMoot Australia 2017 in September to speak with their digital specialists and hear their presentation.
Now, let’s chat with Emma to find out more about learning solutions available to extend collaborative and engaging learning in your Moodle sites!
Moodle HQ: Thank you Emma for taking the time to chat to us today! We are looking forward to seeing the Cengage team at MoodleMoot Australia 2017 soon.
Would you be able to start with giving us a bit of background of Cengage and how your learning solutions are being used to empower educators, trainers and students in Australia and New Zealand?
Emma: It’s great to be talking with you and can I start by saying that we are very excited about MoodleMoot in Sydney this month!
So, Cengage is a global education and technology company that develops innovative textbooks, learning technologies and digital resources. We’re really passionate about supporting teachers and students to get the best possible outcomes for their education goals. Our Australian HQ is in Melbourne, where our amazing publishing, design and production teams do incredible work creating learning tools for the Australian and New Zealand markets. We have a dedicated and specialised sales force with representatives in every major city in Australia and New Zealand that provides second-to-none service. We’re also really proud of the digital support that we offer to university and VET teachers and students.
Moodle HQ: How can Cengage’s learning solutions be used to further extend collaborative and engaging learning in Moodle?
Emma: What’s awesome is how much instructors love it when we integrate content into Moodle, providing a seamless experience for students – they log into Moodle and it’s all right there! eBooks and more sophisticated learning technologies – it’s all integrated behind the one Moodle login.
Moodle HQ: What are some of the most popular solutions from Cengage that students and educators enjoy using or are most beneficial for their learning?
Emma: Cengage tech is built for students – engagement and user experience are critical to everything we do. We get fantastic feedback about our learning apps that offer tools like interactive assignments, ReadSpeaker, plagiarism checking, social media integration, file sharing, and content creation tools.
Our flagship learning technology is MindTap, which is a personalised platform that creates a unique learning path and puts everything a student needs for a course into one place. Lecturers tell us it saves them a lot of time and lets them track their students’ progress in real time, so they can see who needs their help the most.
Pathbrite is another student favourite. From the student perspective, it’s a digital portfolio that is theirs for life, for free, in a really beautiful and professional format. For teachers, it gives them the ability to evaluate student performance with at-a-glance dashboards, semantic analytics, and actionable data on learning outcomes.
We find that instructors are really driven by analytics. Cengage resources give them oversight of their students’ progress, which helps them to increase student engagement and improve course pass rates. And seamless LMS integration is obviously very important!
Moodle HQ: Lastly, as we mentioned earlier, you and the Cengage team will be at MoodleMoot Australia in Sydney from 26 – 28 September.
What can participants at these conferences expect at your presentation and exhibition space?
Emma: We can’t wait to get together with everyone in Sydney. At our exhibition space we’ll be demo’ing Cengage content within Moodle, so we’d love to see as many people there as possible so they can see for themselves what a great experience it is. We’ll also be offering the opportunity to participate in our research into what is important to LMS administrators, and we’ll have daily prize draws.
We’re really excited about our two sessions. In one we’ll be dissecting the results of research into how LMS admins are integrating course solutions and what they need a ‘fully integrated’ course solution to accomplish. And our other session will be exploring the importance of high quality, scalable tools that lighten the load for academics and help to engage students. See you at MoodleMoot!
Thank you Emma for taking the time to talk to us.
