WELCOME TO MIAMI, FLORIDA
For the first time ever, our major MoodleMoot US 2017 will be held in the southeast of the country, in Miami, downtown at the Hyatt Regency.
We at Moodle HQ are looking forward to seeing you there!
NEW LOOK, NEW PROGRAM
We at Moodle HQ have been working on two key projects – MoodleNet and a new Learn Moodle.
We’ve updated our Moot program to show you, for the first time, what we have and get your feedback!
EARLY BIRD TICKETS ALWAYS
We’ve extended our early bird registration prices until forever – well, until before the first Moot day, which is Monday 5 November.
And remember, all registration comes with a new Moodle t-shirt design!
MoodleMoots are the place to recharge your practice: discover the state of the art in online learning, meet peers using Moodle in other institutions, and share your discoveries in an open, inclusive environment.
Moodle HQ: Let’s get to know one of our sponsors, Blindside Networks, with CEO, Fred Dixon.
Fred, for those unfamiliar with Blindside and your BigBlueButton open source project, can you provide a bit of a background?
Fred: BigBlueButton is an open source web conferencing system for online learning.
The design of BigBlueButton reflects a few goals. First, to enable instructors to effectively engage remote students for virtual office hours, small group collaboration, and full online classes. Second, to provide an easy-to-use interface that fades into the background during the lecture. Third, to provide a very deep integration with Moodle so instructors and students can easily launch into virtual classrooms and, after the lecture is finished, view the recording.
Finally, to provide all the above as an open source project so anyone in the world using Moodle could benefit from BigBlueButton.
Moodle HQ: What can Moodlers expect or look forward to from your upcoming presentation at MootUS17 - Florida?
Fred: We’re going to show the new user interface of our latest release. We’ll also demonstrate two new features for increased student engagement: shared notes and multi-user whiteboard.
The later has been often requests by instructors to engage students for tutoring or virtual office hours.
Moodle HQ: How can Moodlers find out more about Blindside Networks and stay up to date with news, new features and be involved in the BBB open source project?
Fred: You’ll find all the latest information on our blog at https://bigbluebutton.org/blog. We have a twitter account at @bigbluebutton. And if you want to join our developer community, check out our public mailing lists at https://bigbluebutton.org/support.
We always welcome feedback on our product. If you want an easy way to try out BigBlueButton, create an account on MoodleCloud. You’ll find BigBlueButton built into every site.
MoodleMoots have always sought to bring the Moodle community together by focusing on collaboration and sharing of best practices for the open-source learning platform.
