MoodleMoots are a space to talk about edtech, collaborate and share best practices around Moodle. They also have a dedicated space where you can speak to our Moodle Partners and MoodleMoot sponsors and learn how to expand and enhance your Moodle sites.

Today we talk to Blindside Networks about how they can help boost your e-learning projects and about what they will be sharing with us at MoodleMoot US 2018.

Moodle HQ: Let’s get to know one of our sponsors in the US, who are also Gold Sponsors for our #MootUS18, Blindside Networks, with, CEO of Blindside Networks Fred Dixon.

Fred, for those unfamiliar with Blindside Network’s work, would you be able to please provide a bit of a background?

Fred: Blindside Networks is the company that started the BigBlueButton project, an open source web conferencing system for online learning. Over the past 10 years we have coordinated the world-wide development of BigBlueButton (now localised in over 50 languages), steadily enhanced the BigBlueButtonBN plugin for Moodle (#8 in overall downloads for Moodle plugins), and work with Moodle Partners to provide integrated virtual classrooms to their customers.

Moodle HQ: What can Moodlers expect or look forward to from Blindside Network’s presence at the upcoming MoodleMoot US 2018 in Denver?

Fred: We are excited to show our latest progress in a full HTML5 client for BigBlueButton, one that works on desktop and mobile devices. We taking all the features of BigBlueButton and moving it to HTML5.

Moodle HQ: What has been one of the best and memorable Moodle projects that Blindside Network has worked on and supported?

Fred: A few years ago we worked with the Monastic Education Development Group, a not-for-profit organization in Myanmar that was enabling students in remote villages to take online classes through Moodle and BigBlueButton. It was a great use of our products in synergy and really showed the power of open source to bring about change.

Moodle HQ: How can Moodlers stay in touch with news from Blindside Network or find out more about your company?

Fred: We post updates on the BigBlueButton project to our twitter account (@bigbluebutton) and to our public mailing lists for BigBlueButton (see https://bigbluebutton.org/support). Also, drop by our booth at the MoodleMoot and checkout our the latest on our efforts to bring virtual classes in Moodle to everyone!
