Austrian Federal Educational Portal – Moodle goes E-Gov

The Austrian government is working intensively on rolling out a comprehensive e-government strategy. As part of the education portal launched in 2023, Moodle has now also become part of this e-government strategy. Already before, a national Moodle learning platform was built in Austria between 2017 and ongoing with the learning platform eduvidual.at, which is one of the 100 largest Moodle instances worldwide.

In addition to the existing experience in Austria, the FOSS Moodle was chosen for the education portal because of its modular design and honest use of open source licenses. Its purpose is to to lay the foundation for a variety of functions that enable the integration of third-party applications in the form of widgets and managed interfaces by means of an Educational Technology Hub and its built in E-Government applications like the digital official signature, dual delivery system and resilient long-term archive for official documents.

This article shows the current project results and is intended to provide space for discussion on the extent to which cross-national collaboration can take place on this topic.
