OpenSTEM labs is an online laboratory, originally created in 2013 in Moodle, featuring online investigations based on on-screen instruments, remote access experiments and virtual scenarios using real data. Students and members of the public can access real equipment on site as if they are in a real lab!
We are releasing a complete refresh of the site in September 2023, changing the way we use Moodle to create an even better laboratory experience for users.
We will explore the OpenSTEM Labs and how we’ve used user centred design to create a platform for students and members of the public to learn about STEM subjects in an interactive, exploratory way. We’ll talk about the development journey and some of the challenges we’ve faced in on the way.
