Maximising engagement with student surveys on Moodle

Gathering feedback from students on their module and programme learning experiences is a common practice in higher education. Indeed, this feedback is often incorporated into important documents and review processes such as annual programme reviews, re-validation of programmes, quality reviews, and so on. This feedback is also useful to educators in reflecting on their practice, redesigning modules, and as evidence for promotion or fellowships.

However, engaging students in surveys to collate their feedback is notoriously difficult, with many institutions reporting low response rates. This presentation at the Moot will share a recent case study from Dublin City University (DCU), in which a combination of programme-level Moodle courses, a plugin to deploy and manage surveys, and a plugin to deliver targeted messages to students, maximised survey response rates.
