Can you tell us about your company and how you help your clients?
Tiny Technologies: Just like Moodle, we go back 20+ years from being an unknown open source project to being a globally recognisable ecosystem. And again, just like Moodle, we at Tiny Technologies blend our open source core with premium features that enhance its value to integrators and users.
As a company, we have over 190 employees working over 12 zones and are proud that TinyMCE is part of the largest rich text editing operation in the world, used by over 1.5 million developers and powering over 100 million products.
How long has your company been working with Moodle?
Tiny Technologies: There’s been a long standing relationship between Moodle and TinyMCE for since the early days. Moodlers find TinyMCE familiar and easy to configure. Recently, that relationship expanded when Moodle replaced their default editor, Atto, with TinyMCE (starting from version 4.1). This year, Tiny has become a Gold Partner for MoodleMootGlobal and we’re keen to show Moodle users how they can make the most of the TinyMCE editor in their Moodle sites.
What recent work or project would you like to highlight?
Tiny Technologies: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a truly game-changing tool. Generative AI is one form of AI that has recently gained notoriety, through the launch of OpenAI and ChatGPT (among others). We have just launched a new TinyMCE AI Assistant plugin in late July 2023, and its key aim is to make the use of generative AI easy and productive within a TinyMCE editor. It integrates with ChatGPT using the users’ own API from Open AI. Pre-written prompts are built into the feature, to help users generate, rewrite and transform content using OpenAI’s powerful GPT models.
What are you most looking forward to at the global MoodleMoot in 2023?
Tiny Technologies: We’re most excited about meeting the Moodle community, its partners and customers, to share our collective development challenges and successes over the last few years. We will share good practices using TinyMCE in Moodle, including some of our favourite TinyMCE Plugins.
Is there anything else that you would like to share or discuss about your company, services, or experiences?
Tiny Technologies: We’re often asked what TinyMCE is and how it works within an application. So, here’s a cliff notes version of what TinyMCE is and its benefits.
A WYSIWYG component (or rich text editor) lives ‘under the hood’ of almost every digital application that needs text to be typed, edited and/or published online. TinyMCE:
- can be integrated into virtually every next-gen web application, and your existing tech stack.
- can be customised via its 400+ APIs and integrated via 12+ framework integrations, or used out-of-the-box as an enterprise-grade editor.
- works out-of-the-box: select the features you want from the list of 50+ feature plugins (open source/Core or Premium).
- connects with other systems either through APIs or custom coding – and with full access to the source code, you can tailor parts (if you desire) or draw on the decades-long experience of its builders that’s available out-of-the-box.
You can configure and extend TinyMCE with its many plugins. Some popular premium plugins include:
- PowerPaste: allows you to cleanly copy-paste from MSWord, GDocs, Excel, and other popular apps.
- Spell Checker Pro: eliminates errors and helps provide consistent, on-brand spelling. Check up to 13 languages (plus medical terms) and build custom dictionaries.
- Advanced Code Editor: power users can make HTML modifications with an IDE-like HTML editor within TinyMCE, to modify developer code underneath the content.
- AI Assistant plugin: The AI Assistant plugin allows a user to interact with registered AI APIs by sending queries and viewing responses within a TinyMCE editor dialog.
