What is a Moodle system without the users having the appropriate devices to access and use it? To avoid this issue, we developed a rental management system (Edurent) and integrated it into our Moodle system. On Edurent, students as lecturers can book the hardware devices, they need to access their course on our Moodle platform. To offer a great and simple user experience for our Moodle community, we make Edurent only accessible through the user’s Moodle account. In fact, it is a simple booking process: users log into Moodle and access the Edurent page, then select the devices available for booking according to their institution. As confirmation, we also send users email notifications about their booking status.
Furthermore, we have allowed each institution or department to manage the lending of their devices to the university community through Edurent. Thus, we have ensured our users have the appropriate, secured, and well-configured hardware devices to run digital exams, courses, workshops, and extra campus events on our Moodle platform. The Edurent system, currently piloted as an external embedded site on Moodle at our university, is set for further development into a Moodle Plugin for enhanced integration at other institutions of the Moodle community. From a technical perspective, we developed Edurent with Bootstrap, PHP, and MySQL as a database.
